Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon: It begins!
Hooray for reading! Today is another installment of Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon, and although the challenge started at 5 AM in my timezone, I am just getting started now.
So, here are my answers to the opening survey…
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
I’m in sunny San Diego, California.
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
The one that’s at the top of my pile: Carrie DiRisio’s Brooding YA Hero. It’s a smart, funny take on all of the annoying, brooding YA main characters and their complex eyebrow signals. So far Broodie McHottiepants (the brooding YA hero) has proven himself to be shallow as a bowl of Rice Krispies, as well as quite the misogynist when it comes to his evil ex-girlfriend, Blondie DiMeani. Isn’t it funny how fictional girls always swoon for this kind of douchebag? I look forward to seeing Blondie get her revenge on him…
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
COFFEE! I don’t really have any snacks lined up, but I might go snag a little chocolate on my way back from the library.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
I’m a hybrid author (I’ve traditionally published 3 YA nonfiction books, and indie published 15 books and countless issues of my own lit mag), I like chocolate, cats, and Pokemon Go, and I’m a sucker for word games (though I tend to lose horribly at Scrabble, because I’m telling you, that one’s all about LUCK and MEMORIZATION), alliteration and puns. I’m currently prepping to write a middle-grade (or possibly YA?) novel for NaNoWriMo this November, with the tentative title The Reluctant Ninja.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
I’ve participated in one other read-a-thon, and will likely do something similar when participating this time: I’ll be dipping in and out of my books throughout the day, instead of reading straight through. I have some work to do for my day job, so that’s part of the reason, but I also can’t just sit on the couch for 24 hours straight anymore (chalk it up to old age, but I actually need to get up and MOVE!). I’m also looking forward to reading nothing but kidlit this time, as I’m researching for my next novel! So I’ve requested a bunch of children’s books from the library, and need to go pick those up soon.
Are you participating in the Readathon today?
If so, what are you reading?
