Luscious drag dining at Lips: Sexy San Diego
If you’ve never experienced the star-spangled experience of hanging out with drag queens, then you need to hightail it over to Lips ASAP.
Lips Restaurant is a bit like inserting yourself into an episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race along with your dinner. Or brunch! (Their world-famous Gospel Brunch every Sunday includes unlimited champagne, Bloody Marys and mimosas.)
This may shock San Diegans, but Lips does have a dress code. As they state on their website: “while we are a casual restaurant we want you to look your best (just not better than us).” Dressing up is encouraged, while girls in short skirts are urged not to forget their panties, and boys are told to leave the tank-tops and shorts at home. Baseball hats are banned, and flip flops must be worn “with class: trim those nails, no one wants to see bunions.” Amen!
In addition to dinner and a show, you can also participate in Lips’ various themed nights:
[author_list style=”heart”]
- Turnback Tuesdays offers retro games and encourages guests to dress in clothes from their favorite time period (70s, 80s, 90s – are the 90s considered “retro” already, girl?!)
- Wednesdays are reserved for Bitchy Bingo (win some Lips swag or crazy prizes)
- Thursdays are for Dining With The Divas – a show devoted to celebrity impersonators channeling Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Christina Aguilera, and more (no two shows are ever alike, with different entertainers each week)
- Fridays and Saturdays are Glamour Girls nights (“big hair, high heels, and a lot of duct tape”)
- The late show on Saturday, Taboo, busts out a little glam drag burlesque.

Cure your hangover with some hair of the dog on Sunday morning at Gospel Brunch, led by Sister Nun-of-the-Above and the Sister of Sequins, or come to the evening show for Showtune Sundays with Paris Sukomi Max and The Divettes.
And if you think you’ve got what it takes to strut your stuff with the divas, hit the stage every second Sunday night for “So You Think You Can Drag?” hosted by Paris Sukomi Max.
So what are you waiting for? Get your weekly dose of glitter, glam and Gaga at Lips, girl!
Lips is located at 3036 El Cajon Boulevard in North Park.
